My College Life...
by Polly Deleon Guerrero

After graduating from Notre Dame High School in Guam, I was prepared for the college life that everyone was talking about: the parties, the social scenes and the fact that you weren't tortured into being at school everyday from 8am-3pm, Monday to Friday.  Being able to choose what classes YOU wanted as well as the time that seemed most convenient to you (and your life-style) was not only a dream come true, but also a big step into the “real world” that all my instructors were blabbing about for 4 years.  It couldn't be THAT bad, I thought to myself, this I had to see!

Of course when time came for me as a fresh person in college, it was all different.  I wasn't being so much of a  “party person” as I thought I would be.  Instead, I was a real serious person with school.
I donut know if it had to do with the fact that I was attending college in Saipan (Northern Marianas College--NMC) and that I was back under my parents roof, but I was real serious when it came to working and going to school.  Before I knew it, I was applying to transfer into a four-year institution to further my education and get my Bachelors degree in Business.  And then it came time for me to graduate with my Associate's degrees: Pre Business and Liberal Arts.  By this time, I had already made up my mind to continue at my dads Alma Mater: the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV).

So here I am now...continuing under the School of Business as a Human Resource Management major. Moving out here was not only a culture shock, but a whole different world for me.  I can honestly say that  I've taken advantage of the fact that I'm back here and traveled as much as I could, whether it be by plane or car!  I have yet to try out travel by train.  I think my party days have just begun for myself out here in Las Vegas...funny, but true! It may be because I'm making up for lost time in my earlier college years or it may be because merely, it's the “entertainment capital of the world”!!!

Overall, for all those who are thinking of going to college after high school, DON'T THINK---JUST DO IT!!!  Personally, the college life has been the most experiential part of my life and probably, the best times of my life.  It can be yours, too.  Just remember that when you're all done with the college scene and its time to get back on track with the real ”REAL WORLD” stuff, you're gonna wish you were still living the college life!!!
