Part II

Excerpts from a chapter of "Beyond the Looking Glass," the autobiography of Robert
Neal Quinn from 1927-1952. A brief profile of Bob Quinn's naval service can be found in the aptly entitled, America's Youngest Warriers---a compilation of  "stories about young men and women who served in the armed forces before attaining legal age."  It is printed by KK
Stevens Publishing Company: Astoria, Illinios and can also be found in the Library of
Congress, catalog card number 96-61959 ISBN 0-9656093-0-8.

Bob joined the Navy in 1943 when he was sixteen and served in the Pacific. He was assigned to a amphibious landing craft unit and later an aircraft carrier.

Native islanders of Guam who reside in the United States established the website "Offisland.com" for the purpose of communicating with their relatives, friends and others interested in the Marianas Islands.

This article was requested by staff of Offisland.com when in the course of an inquiry, it was
learned that Bob Quinn had participated in the United States invasion forces of the
Marianas Islands in July 1944.

The excerpts of this article were formatted and named by the Offisland.com staff and are
published in three parts. Part I first appeared on March 1, 1999.

Bob Quinn was transferred from his Guam assignment to an aircraft carrier and spent the
remainder of World War II with the Pacific fleet. On September 2, 1945, Bob witnessed the
unconditional surrender of Japan in Tokyo Bay on the decks of the USS Missouri from the
flight deck of his carrier.
