Bob joined the Navy in 1943 when he was sixteen and served in the Pacific.
He was assigned to a amphibious landing craft unit and later an aircraft
carrier.
Native islanders of Guam who reside in the United States established
the website "Offisland.com" for the purpose of communicating with their
relatives, friends and others interested in the Marianas Islands.
This article was requested by staff of Offisland.com when in the course
of an inquiry, it was
learned that Bob Quinn had participated in the United States invasion
forces of the
Marianas Islands in July 1944.

Bob Quinn was transferred from his Guam assignment to an aircraft carrier
and spent the
remainder of World War II with the Pacific fleet. On September 2, 1945,
Bob witnessed the
unconditional surrender of Japan in Tokyo Bay on the decks of the USS
Missouri from the
flight deck of his carrier.
